About Me

My name is LaVerne Thomas-Taylor. I was born in Denver, Colorado but I grew up in Houston, Texas. I consider myself a native Houstonian. I love all things about Houston. I have been happily married to Marlow M. Taylor, for 11 years. Marlow is a Captain in the United States Army therefore, we travel a lot. In October 2007, I decided to join the Army.

I’ve been writing since before I can even remember. I’ve always written poetry and English was my favorite subject while in school. I wrote my first novel at the age of 20, working as a security guard. The complete novel was written in a 70 page spiral notebook. Twelve years later that book Fast Lane became my second published novel. It was interesting to see how much I had changed within the last twelve years because my writing was completely different. I’ve written two novels (Me Alone and Fast Lane The Changes Relationships Go Through) and one interactive work book (Pure I’m Worth The Wait).

I have a Bachelors of Science in Administration of Justice from Texas Southern University. I was on my way to law school but I got married and God showed me
what I was supposed to be doing and, that’s writing. About three years later, God showed me something else about myself. This was that I wouldn’t work for someone for the rest of my life; I was destined to be my own boss. Therefore, I decided to get my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Phoenix. I’ve worked as a paralegal / legal secretary for the past eight years. In January 2006, my husband and I started Lucy Rose Publishing. When God speaks to you, open your ears and listen.

God is so awesome because He will position you right where you need to be exactly at the moment that you need to be there. I didn’t have any corporate experience but I was blessed with a job as a corporate legal secretary a few months prior to us starting Lucy Rose Publishing. Instead of having to pay an attorney, I was able to get free legal advice from work and do most of the paper work to establish the company. It has truly been a blessing.

I enjoy writing stories that touch the readers. I want you as a reader to be able to relate to the characters and once you are done, I want the message to touch you.

I’ve written my 4th novel which should be released in 2010 (it poses the age-old questions – Is there a secret code between friends? Would you date your friend’s ex?) I am working on
my 5th and 6th novels which will be a collection of poems and short stories.
